Following the success of our Virtual Violin program in 2002/03, we started the Virtual Keyboarding program. Eight keen 5 and 6 year old students were selected to participate. Each of those students works with a mentor who is a secondary student. The younger students only speak Inuktitut, so their mentor and Inuk teacher, Vinnie, assist them by translating from English.

We connect via satellite video conference once per week to the NRC in Ottawa to meet our instructor, Erin. Erin teaches keyboard instruction using the Yamaha method. In addition to the video conference lessons, the students attend three practice sessions and four optional sessions.

Yamaha graciously loaned our school ten DGX-200 keyboards as well as stands, benches, books, cds. They also surprised us by sending each of the students and mentors a Yamaha Music Maker t-shirt. Thanks Yamaha!!
