| We meet with Karin once per week through video conference. Karin teaches
out of the NRC in Ottawa. We learn both throat singing and drum dancing.
Karin is a great teacher. We have our lessons every Tuesday at 5:30. For
some of our lessons,we were joined by Aqsarniit Middle School in Iqaluit.
The students from Iqaluit shared some of the throat singing sound they learned
from elders in their community--it was a lot of fun!! During a few of our practices, the Grade 2 Inuktitut students were invited to learn throat singing. Most of the kids had a really great time and wanted to come back again. Because Karin is and Inuk and has family living in Kangiqsualujjuaq, she had a chance to meet with her relatives following the lessons. They even had a chance to virtually share a feast of caribou hoof. |
