Many times people think of the arctic environment as being a place where very little grows and lives. However, upon closer look, one can see that there are many different kinds of plants in that live here.

The secondary one students studied the arctic environment behind the school. A hoola was used to define an area that was surveyed. How many different types of plants are found in a certain area? The students surveyed various areas: by the stream; in the valley; in the bushy area; and on a slope by the stream.

Rosina surveyed an area near the stream, behind the school.

Ammack and Joe were in the valley, in a mossy area. They found less variety than other students.

Annie and Christina were surveying right by the stream. They had small shrubs and no moss in their area.

Thomas and Sandy were in the valley. We can see the variety in the hoola hoop.
