An elder from the community came to talk to the grade 6 and secondary one students about arctic char. Years ago, when the Inuit still lived on the land, they would be very happy when spring came and the arctic char migrated back down the rivers towards the bays and ocean where they spend their summers. After a long winter, where the diet consisted mostly of seal meat, and other red meat if it was available, the change in food and abundance was welcome. Today, the Inuit go fishing all year round. In the winter they go to the lakes by snowmobiles and drill holes in the ice that can sometimes be frozen1.5 meters deep.

Suzy Morgan shared her wisdom and knowledge.

She talked about the different fish that can be caught here, which parts of the fish are good to eat, and which parts are dangerous.

Suzy talked about jigging, and about what the fish eat.

Suzy also talked about fish in the shallow water.

The students enjoyed the visit of the elder, and the knowledge shared.
