......a qamutik. Hamutiks are sleds. They are made of wood. Hamutiks have two skies. People use hamutiks when they go camping. We pull hamutiks when we use our skidoos. Children can make small hamutiks for sliding. Sometimes people build little cabins on a hamutik. People can buy hamutiks for someone. Hamutiks can be painted. Sometimes elders teach the young people how to make hamutiks. Inuit people use then to go camping. People who get lost should bring them with their gear. A long time ago there were hamutiks, too. Dogsled teams pulled hamutiks. |

......bannock. Bannock is made of grain. I eat bannock with tea. Inuit women make bannock. Ungava Bay bannock is different from Hudson Bay bannock. They can be boiled in a pot of oil, fried in a pan or baked in the oven. Non-native people don't know what is bannock. I don't help my mom when she makes bannock. Some girls make bannock. Bannock is popular with Inuit people and eaten with tea. Bannock is made with salt, tenderflake, baking powder and flour. My mom makes bannock in our house and in the tent when we are camping. When my mom and my sisters make bannock I don't help them. I don't like to make bannock. My dad makes bannock, though. |

......an igloo. A long time ago igloos were used instead
of houses. They are made of snow. Igloos have lots of blocks. Inside
an igloo it is warm from the stove. We use panaks to make igloos.
Today we don't live in igloos. Igloos can be use for shelter from
storms. The first Inuit people lived in igloos. Igloos are nice. Some
people down south think we still live in igloos but we don't anymore.
In contests we build igloos. The people further up north mostly use
igloos when they go out on land because they are passed the tree line.
They use igloos because there is less trees. We use tents because

...... an amautik. A mother can carry a baby in an amautik. Young girls like to make small amautiks. Women can make amautiks. A long time ago women made amautik with caribou skins.Elderly women can carry a baby in a amautik sometimes. If the women don't have babies they don't use amautiks. I might carry a baby in my amautik. Young girls sometimes are taught how to sew amautik by their mothers. Winter amautikare made out of sheep skins for the winter summer ones are made out of polar flase or pile. A young baby is swaddled tightly inside and an older baby sits in the pouch. |

...... an ulu. Inuit women use an ulu to cut food. Inuit men can make ulus for their women. Some men don't use ulus, only knives. I don't like to use an ulu. They can be small or big. Women use ulus to cut their food when they eat. My mom uses an ulu all the time. My brother can carve ulus. Ulus can be very sharp. The handles are made out of wood. The blade is made out of metal. Inuit men sometimes use a saw to get their metal. |
