......a caribou.

Caribou have antlers on their head. They also have lots of fur.
They are good to eat when they are frozen and raw. Lots of people
hunt caribou. They are brown and white. Their antlers are used
by Inuit for carving. They can protect themselves with their
antlers. I like to eat caribou meat. Caribou can run very fast.
Their fur can be thick or thin depending on the season. Caribou
feed on lichen. Caribou are scared of people. They can be hunted
by wolves. They can swim in the water. Sometimes caribou sleep
in the forest. Caribou have their babies usually in the spring.

......a cloudberry.

Cloudberries are berries found on the tundra in the north. They
look like a raspberry but the taste is not at all the same.
It is also known as
"baked apple" in Newfoundland. Here in George River the Inuit
called them "arpik" when they are unripe and when they are soft
and juicy "aunik". Both are eaten either way. They are sometimes
made into jam, pies, muffins, pancakes or simply enjoyed just
as they are picked.

......a ptarmigan.

A ptarmigan is an animal. It is a white arctic bird. There are
two kinds of ptarmigan. One is called a Willow ptarmigan and
the other a Rock ptarmigan. They can fly far and fast. They
are camouflage in the snow and on the tundra during the summer.
In the winter they are white and their coat begins to change
to brown in the spring. Ptarmigan can be heard from far. Their
sound in the spring sounds like,
"Quebec, Quebec".
In the spring the male ptarmigan have red eyelids. During this
time they are easy to hunt because they don't move around much.
Inuit love to hunt ptarmigan for their meat. They good tasting
bird. Young Inuit boys are taught to hunt ptarmigan around nine
years old. This is a good healthy outdoor activity out on the
tundra for many.

...... a nassak.

Lots of people wear nassaks. Even children like to make nassaks.
A nassak can be very colourful. We use coloured yarn to make
nassaks. They can be any kind of colour. Some children like
to wear nassaks. Some girls like to make small nassaks or adult
ones. My grandmother always likes to make nassaks. Some women
make a lot of nassaks for their children. Some girls don't like
to make them.
I like to wear my nassak when I go camping. Some kids like to
wear a nassak when they going camping too.
